Louise, aka “Wheezy” is a retired teacher who shared her love of foreign languages with students in middle schools and high schools in Ohio and New Jersey for over 40 years. These days she is best known for her “Wide World of Wheezy:” segment on the “Matt and Ramona” radio show (www.mattandramona.com). How did a retired public school teacher with no broadcasting experience get a gig on a nationally syndicated radio show? Ramona Holloway is Wheezy’s only birth child. She has also played a major role in the spoiling of her grandson, Jeremy..

As you can imagine, after more than four decades in the classroom, Wheezy has a lot of unofficially adopted children as well. Having a huge family comes naturally to her. She is the middle child of nine! Her family has roots in Oxford, Mississippi where she was born. The family’s move to the north in the early 1940s took them to Oberlin, Ohio. Wheezy is a proud graduate of Oberlin High School and Baldwin Wallace College.

Wheezy’s dedication to excellence in education led her to become a charter member of a chapter of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, Incorporated. She remains active in this sisterhood of African-American educators. Wheezy has shared her gift of teaching in the United Methodist Church as well. Her hobbies include researching other cultures, reading thrillers and mysteries, studying herbal remedies, collecting bells and watching CBS soaps. She enjoys listening to the old Motown sound and hymns.

The winter of 2003 was the last she spent in Ohio. In 2004 Wheezy traded snow for sunshine when she moved to South Carolina to be closer to her daughter. She is currently single and teases Ramona relentlessly about having a cougar (an older woman who hunts for younger men) for a mother. GRRRRRRRR!
